A New Year and Still Holding on to Hope

Psalm 27:1 “The LORD is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear?”

A New Year usually brings everyone hope. Hope for a new life, a new job, a chance to make things anew. However, I don’t think we need to put off the things we can do today. From my friend’s recent car crash that got her into a critical condition, I was made even more aware of car accidents we can try to prevent. Mother nature is a force to be reckoned with and sometimes, we are just at her mercy. Thus, please be mindful when you are speeding. I have read this through a basic driving improvement course that you won’t save a lot of time by speeding through the local streets. Also, ALWAYS follow the rules because the one time that you don’t might be the one to get you a ticket, a bad record or worse, you caused an accident. Most importantly, rest before you travel. There are higher chances of you veering off road or slamming into someone’s rear end when you cannot keep your focus. When you become inattentive, your reaction time is slower. Plan your trip accordingly and make preparations (i.e. leave early if there is a snow storm, etc.). All in all, I try to remember these three things:

  1. Don’t drive faster than your angels can fly.
  2. Being late and speeding is not worth killing yourself over.
  3. Remember the 3s rule in driving. If you end up sliding off the icy road, keep calm and pray to keep calm. It helps to be calm and quick on your reaction.

May you all have a blessed New Year! Safe travels! I hope your new year will be blessed with more happiness than sadness.

For everyone else, new year has begun. For us here in Indiana, we still have about ~15 hours to go. It feels like forever when you are waiting. However, even anxious moments like these are still precious on their own. My faith is being tested as we continue to pray for my dear friend Juliene Spade. She is doing a lot better and so I would like everyone to know that you have done a great deed for her and her family with your prayers and donations.

For those who are unaware, this is her diagnosis:

  1. Subdural Hematoma
  2. Mild Traumatic Subarachnoid Hemorrhage
  3. Nondisplaced anterior acetabular fracture (non surgical. not sure of the terms but I was told her hip and pelvis)
  4. Pulmonary Contusion
  5. L5 Fracture — Lumbar fracture

Because of the location of her head injuries, no surgery could be done. The only thing the doctors can do is support the body and pray. They have placed a pressure monitor on her head. They are monitoring her vitals closely. She has been unconscious and unresponsive since the accident. She is sedated and will be kept that way until they try to wake her up today. This was the best course of action for her young body to heal on its own. IF she is awake and in pain, then her intracranial pressure (ICP) will go up. We definitely don’t want swelling to get worse. She is still currently in an induced coma. These 72 hrs since Thursday evening are crucial.

News report I found about her accident: Juliene Spade’s accident

Quick update: We are at 40% of the 10k goal. I am sure that we can grow it more by sharing. Thank you for thinking of her as you shell out any amount for the sake of a cheery friend, strong-willed daughter and loving wife that most know and adore. And Amen I say to you if you have donated despite not knowing her. For every donor and post sharer, I would like to say a prayer of gratitude for being mindful of Juliene Spade and her family in both countries, U.S. and the Philippines.
